October 1st, 2013 the health insurance marketplaces created by the Affordable Healthcare Act will be open for business. The individual mandate stating that everyone must purchase health insurance or pay a fine levied by the IRS, does not kick in until 2014. Individuals who wish to participate in the marketplace are urged to begin collecting the necessary documentation to begin the application process. You should have your social security number, documents from your current health insurance plan, and any information about an employer plan you are currently or potentially a member of. There are 4 levels of plans; bronze, silver, gold, and platinum. Each have different pros and cons that you should weigh with your licensed health insurance agent.
